Sound editing explanation
The diegetic
sound effect was something that took over a huge part of our short film. We had
the sound of the character speaking with the sound from the camera kept on. The
use of diegetic sound was to help the audience understand what was happening in
the plot. Also, as our narrative can be relatable to people, this type of sound
would make it realistic.
The non-diegetic sound was a sound technique that was used in terms of editing. In one of the scenes in the film, the park scene, the dialogue from the video wasn’t clear as the sound of the wind was too strong, so we added a voiceover when the character was speaking. The voiceover was the character speaking about what he was thinking and how he feels. This would let the audience know how far in the plot the movie is in as the character seemed fine before, but now he seems down. Also, this would help the audience connect to the scene.
Audio levels
were another thing that was quite consistent in terms of editing. This was
checking the sound levels to ensure that the right volume was set so that it
was clear for the audience to hear. This was done at the beginning of the film when
the montage would be playing. I decreased the volume of the audio from the
original footage and slightly increased the volume of the music so that the
audience was able to hear it. Although we added a fade-in effect for that music
playing, the increase of the music would be so that it can be heard at the end
of the montage scene. This would have set the mood for our short film, setting
up an enigma, and making the audience wonder what is happening.
Although the majority of our film of our film had sound from the footage, we did add a sound effect. We looked up for some sound effect and we found a sound effect of a bean bag on a chair falling. We converted the sound into an mp3 and downloaded it into iTunes, where we installed it into Final Cut Pro and placed it for the last scene. this was placed at the moment where the chair fell on the floor. This would have shocked the audience and made a form of impact to display the character's anger.
